The Institute of Hungarian Linguistic Studies and the Terminology Research Group (TERMIK) of the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church and the Council of Hungarian Terminology organizes its fifth Terminology Thursday event “Workshop and Alumni Meeting: Results of the Terminology Department – Preparation to Relaunch the Department on February 8, 2018.

On 16-17 November 2017, the third Conference on Source Research, Source Edition, and History of Science was organised by the Institute of Hungarian Language and Finno-Ugric Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE BTK) and the Society of Hungarian Linguistics with the support of the Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy.

On 29 November 2017, the Faculty of Humanities of the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) hosted the conference “Onomastic Research 2017: Names and Dictionaries”.

A workshop on the options for developing the Hungarian National Toponym Registry was organised jointly by the Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy (MANYSI) and the research group responsible for the management and development of the Hungarian National Toponym Registry (MNH) on 11 December 2017 in the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. 

The Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy (MANYSI) launched a series of roundtable discussions on public education with the aim to define the strategic objectives of the Institute related to education in the mother tongue and to draw up proposals for the necessary changes. The first meeting took place on 30 November 2017 in the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The Atlas of Historical Surnames of the Carpathian Basin was presented on 12 December 2017 in Bratislava.

The Wacław Felczak Foundation was established under Act CLXVI of 2017 published in the Hungarian Official Gazette (Magyar Közlöny) no. 193 of 2017. The goal of the Foundation is “to further deepen the Hungarian-Polish friendship and cooperation”.

On 24 November 2017, the Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy (MANYSI) organised the conference on digital teaching material and digital literacy in the conference hall of the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The topic discussed at the conference was the connection among the basic principles of teaching material development trends in public education, digital literacy and government strategies on digital literacy. 

Several institutions and organisations raise concerns and proclaim their outrage at the Language Bill adopted by the Ukrainian Parliament in September. 

One of the priority objectives of the Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy (MANYSI) is to increase awareness of the linguistic richness of the Hungarian language with the aim to strengthen the prestige of our mother tongue. In the spirit of this endeavour, the Institute launched the project competitions “Multifarious Journey in the World of the Hungarian Language without a Textbook” for teachers and “Image in Language, Language in Images” for children and students.

Under the resolution passed by the Hungarian Parliament in 2011, we celebrate the Day of the Hungarian language on 13 November commemorating the same day in 1844 when King Ferdinand V - bending to the demand of more than half a century of the Hungarian nation and reformers – adopted II preamble on the Hungarian language and nation, thereby making the Hungarian language official.

The 19th National Conference on Public Education was organised on 7-9 November 2017 in Hajdúszoboszló where the Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy (MANYSI) was represented by Attila Tóth, director.

This year the 7th annual Diaspora Council meeting and the sixteenth session of the Hungarian Permanent Conference (Máért) were held on 9-10 November at the Castle Garden Bazaar in Budapest. The Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy (MANYSI) was represented by Attila Tóth, director at both events.

The Finno-Ugric Department of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań organizes an international conference on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the Hungarian specialization (hungarystyka, later filologia węgierska), entitled “The Present and Future of Hungarology”.

In 2015 the National Assembly of Hungary – in line with the commitment enshrined in the Fundamental Law – declared 15 November, the birthday of Gábor Bethlen, Prince of Transylvania the Day of the Hungarian diaspora. The goal of the Memorial Day is to draw the attention to the situation of the Hungarians living in diaspora in the Carpathian basin and to support them in remaining in their homeland and preserving their language, culture and identity.
