The 9th of November was declared the Day of Hungarian Sign Language by a resolution of the National Assembly of Hungary.

The Hungarian language, including the Hungarian sign language is the organic part of the Hungarian culture. Thus, the protection and development of the Hungarian language is our constitutional obligation. On 31 October 2017, the Hungarian Parliament –“ out of respect for the Hungarian sign language as a recognised, independent and natural language” (source: Hungarian Official Gazette ) - passed a resolution declaring 9 November the Day of Hungarian Sign Language.  The Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy is happy to endorse the initiative as this Day does not only serve as an occasion to express our tribute and respect but also offers an excellent opportunity – similarly to the Day of the Hungarian Language on 13 November – to draw the attention of the society to the values and importance of language.
