On 13 April, the books published by the Termini Research Network of the Hungarian Language in 2017 were presented in the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The following publications were in the focus of the event:  Tudományköziség és magyarságtudomány a nyelvi dimenziók tükrében (Interdisciplination and Hungarology in the Light of Linguistic Dimensions); Szélrózsa (Compass Rose); Őrvidéki házinevek (Bynames  in Őrvidék); Nyelvek és nyelvváltozatok térben és időben (Languages and Language Varieties in Space and Time); A magyar nyelv jelene és jövője (The Present and Future of the Hungarian Language).

The Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy (MANYSI) organized the conference “Challenges of Terminology Strategy in the Hungarian Language Area” in cooperation with the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary (KRE), the Council of Hungarian Language and Terminology and the Hungarian Office for Translation and Attestation Plc. (OFFI) on 9 March 2018 in the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The Society of Hungarian Linguistics, the Department of Finno-Ugric Studies and Hungarian Linguistics of ELTE, the Department of Hungarian Linguistics of the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary and the Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy organises a roundtable conference titled Hungarian Onomastic Research – Current Tasks on 26 March 2018.

A book titled „The Present and the Future of the Hungarian Language” based on scientific research and presenting the situation of the Hungarian language and language community on the Millennium was published by Gondolat Publishing House. 

The first session of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy was held on 26 February 2018.

The Department of Translation and Interpreting of the Faculty of Humanities of the Eötvös Loránd University organises its 20th Translation Studies Conference.

The Institute of Hungarian Linguistic Studies and the Terminology Research Group (TERMIK) of the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church and the Council of Hungarian Terminology held its fifth Terminology Thursday event “Workshop and Alumni Meeting: Results of the Terminology Department – Preparation to Relaunch the Department on February 8, 2018.

On 15 February 2018, the symposium “The Origin of the Hungarian Conquerors of the Carpathian Basin on the Basis of Genetic and Linguistic Data” was held in the building of the Regional Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Debrecen.

The Institute of Hungarian Linguistic Studies and the Terminology Research Group (TERMIK) of the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church and the Council of Hungarian Terminology organizes its fifth Terminology Thursday event “Workshop and Alumni Meeting: Results of the Terminology Department – Preparation to Relaunch the Department on February 8, 2018.

On 16-17 November 2017, the third Conference on Source Research, Source Edition, and History of Science was organised by the Institute of Hungarian Language and Finno-Ugric Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE BTK) and the Society of Hungarian Linguistics with the support of the Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy.

On 29 November 2017, the Faculty of Humanities of the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) hosted the conference “Onomastic Research 2017: Names and Dictionaries”.

A workshop on the options for developing the Hungarian National Toponym Registry was organised jointly by the Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy (MANYSI) and the research group responsible for the management and development of the Hungarian National Toponym Registry (MNH) on 11 December 2017 in the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. 

The Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy (MANYSI) launched a series of roundtable discussions on public education with the aim to define the strategic objectives of the Institute related to education in the mother tongue and to draw up proposals for the necessary changes. The first meeting took place on 30 November 2017 in the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The Atlas of Historical Surnames of the Carpathian Basin was presented on 12 December 2017 in Bratislava.

On 24 November 2017, the Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy (MANYSI) organised the conference on digital teaching material and digital literacy in the conference hall of the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The topic discussed at the conference was the connection among the basic principles of teaching material development trends in public education, digital literacy and government strategies on digital literacy.
