The Béla J. Nagy spelling competition in the Carpathian Basin was organised by the Eszterházy Károly University.

The former national spelling competition is now organised for students of higher education and teacher training institutions in the Carpathian basin. The organiser is traditionally the Eszterházy University in Eger.  The contestants compare their spelling skills in the most regulated and uniform language area of colloquial Hungarian.

The conference, traditionally organised along the competition, dealt with the constantly renewing and current issues of spelling and the specific problems of the Hungarian Diaspora. The competition consisted of tests and dictation tasks.

The event was supported by the Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy. Our Institute was represented by dr Vilma Eőry, advisor who was the chair of the conference and member of the jury at the competition.
