Dear Reader,

The government of Hungary established the Institute for Hungarian Language Strategy by Government Decree No. 55/2014 (III. 4.) and, inter alia, mandated the Institute to explore the Hungarian linguistic heritage, to develop and supervise the Hungarian medium-term language strategy in order to strengthen national identity.

With a view to achieving the aims set out in the Government Decree, the Institute considers it its responsibility to establish active relationships between language policy and the academic life. However, in view of new research results being obtained on a daily basis, the Institute deems it important to repeatedly reformulate its objectives and encourage intellectuals to be open to new (or formerly concealed) scientific approaches and – rethinking and overturning established dogmas of several decades – agree to weigh them against previous dogmatic views. With benevolence, openness, mutual understanding and cooperation we will be able to go beyond the rigid and still impermeable borders of the various disciplines in science. Today the knowledge of related disciplines and border sciences is indispensable when examining linguistic issues.  We should also pay attention to the opinion of archaeologists, historians, ethnographers, geneticists and computer experts. The work of the Institute can be best characterized by the following:  sense of purpose, identity, critical approach and constant renewal.

Dear Reader, please follow the activity of our Institute on our website, share your views and proposals with us.
